Product Review
As my mum did before me, I get cold hands and feet very easily and, once they are cold, that is it: it’s game over for me and I need to get inside and warm up.
For years, I have tried various makes of gloves for stalking (and game and clay shooting) that claim to be warm and waterproof, only to find they are no such thing! All have let water through when it is very wet and my hands have then got cold or they have not been windproof enough and my fingers have seized. I need gloves that keep me warm and dry but are flexible enough for me to be able to feel the trigger and not get caught up in the trigger guard when I am about to take a shot. Yes, thick gloves are warmer but most are too cumbersome for my needs.
That’s why I was pleasantly surprised at the Sealskinz Waterproof All weather shooting gloves. Looking at them, I thought they might be fine on top of thinner, base layer gloves and that they might be too bulky to shoot with and that I’d have to take them off at the point of shot but, no, they are thick enough to keep the wind and rain out and I can also feel the trigger through them.
The adjustable Velcro wrist strap keeps them snug against my arm and makes them easy to put on and take off. They are green and thus ideal for stalking, and the goatskin palms are flexible and durable but I do have one beef about the description! I do not find the touch screen technology finger and thumb pads work at all. I still have to take the glove off to send a text or answer a call… or learn to ignore the phone!
All in all, these are now my go-to gloves for colder weather and I also have the Sealskinz Merino inner glove liners to further keep my hands warm. In fact, I can say that my hands got too warm one day last week in them! Great gloves.
